The following statement was released earlier today by Jeff Jampol, Manager of The Doors:
"The Doors Vinyl Box will not be ready for October - the test pressings were not up to our standards, and the LA Woman artwork was also felt to not be 100%. Bruce Botnick, Jac Holzman and Bernie Grundman went through great time, expense and personal attention to get the masters PERFECT - and we all feel they succeeded. Then, the first round of test pressings were found to be faulty. We traced it back to bad compounds in the virgin vinyl, and it appears that the original supplier of vinyl will not be able to deliver consistent quality. Bruce then sourced new virgin vinyl from Europe, we did a second round of test pressings, and they sounded marvelous! Between waiting for mothers (a component part in the vinyl pressings) and the re-separated and printed artwork, the final numbered boxes will be delayed until February 2008. This is a total drag for us, we wanted them out there by the end of this month, but we're only doing this one time, and The Doors felt it necessary to have EVERYTHING right, even if it meant not having them out in time for the 4th Quarter this year. So - our apologies to all of you - especially those who pre-ordered and are expecting a delivery this month. It ain't gonna happen, but they will be here in February, I am told. If anyone DID pre-order, we will gladly offer full refunds with no charges should you not wish to wait, and again, our sincere apologies - we want every aspect of the releases to be perfect: Masters, sound, packaging, art, liner notes, etc." | | Citer |
